I used to believe in desperation. At desperate times, I still do.

However, these days, more often I get the lucky privilege to believe in jubilation. A feeling and expression of joy! The more I focus my lens on gratitude and love, the more jubilation I feel.

My face if full of glee and my soul is full of the love in the selfie I took above. The occasion was a for-no-reason celebration. It was at best a last hurray before the end of warm days. A made-up occasion where we had planned for snacks and spirits on the patio followed by a fire.

It started to rain.

My friend pictured on the right saved the moment by digging out four plastic umbrellas made for little girls that had since left the nest. The hilarity of saving these childhood relics had us laughing in amazement and amusement that she had these. These umbrellas were instantly recognizable. We each chose our favorite childhood character. Our collective memory conjured up images of petite, precocious children twirling magically.

It is difficult let go of the demands of adulthood and transcend to the pure joy of living in the moment. Yet, this is exactly what Jesus wants us to do. He wants us to live in joy and jubilation. In John 15:11, Jesus says, “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
